Mary Vaux Walcott

Known as the “Audubon of Botany", Mary Vaux Walcott was a pioneer in photography and mountaineering, despite the limitations imposed by her generation's gender roles. Mary was the first woman in Canada to ascend a mountain over 10,000ft and she later lectured on botany and photography to crowds of up to 3,000 people. Mary's name lives on through a landmark, Mt. Mary Vaux, a 3,208m summit located in Jasper National Park.
