Hilma af Klint

Long before Kandinsky or Mondrian, Hilma af Klint was painting the unseen. Her abstract works - rooted in spirituality, mysticism, and feminist vision - predated the recognised “birth” of abstraction by years. But she was ignored by the art world, dismissed for her gender, and told her work wouldn’t be understood for another century.

At Cynefn, we honour af Klint not just as the first abstract artist, but as a visionary woman who painted in secret - guided by intuition, spirits, and a belief in a future that might finally see her.
