Gustav Klimt

Though widely celebrated today, Gustav Klimt’s work was once censored, mocked, and banned - his bold depictions of women and sexuality clashed with conservative Austrian values. His work was later seized by the Nazis as part of their campaign against so-called “degenerate” art.

Klimt was a radical artist, rejected by institutions, who fought for artistic freedom.
